Gaining Confidence and Overcoming Social Anxiety

MeKendra was born with Achondroplasia Dwarfism, a genetic disorder that resulted in shortened limbs and a short stature. MeKendra Sloan is an Owlette who has big dreams and goals with the heart of an entrepreneur. After graduation, MeKendra wants to be a Respiratory Specialist and NICU nurse.

Due to people constantly staring at her short stature, MeKendra developed social anxiety. Joining the Owlette program has allowed her to get out of her shell.

“I’ve always wanted to be a business owner, especially now that I work in a retail store for someone else,” says MeKendra. “I have more of a drive to work for myself. I want to bring people together, have meetings and encourage each other.”

Since she’s joined the Owlettes, MeKendra continues to step out of her comfort zone and bring people together over the love of Origami Owl Jewelry and the stories that each piece tells.
